Hamble Inshore Lifeboat was set up 40 years this year. The unit was formed by local residents, fishermen, and boating enthusiast in response to an increasing number of accidents and fatalities in the Hamble River, Southampton Water and the Solent.

The unit is one of approximately 65 Independent Lifeboat stations found around the British Isles. We do not receive any funding from the RNLI or Coastguard. However we do work closely alongside the RNLI and respond to tasking from the Coastguard.

Hamble Lifeboat provides 24-7 pager response, as well as weekend, Bank holiday, and major event patrols.
The unit has two Pacific 32 rigid inflatable lifeboats, which comply with the Maritime Coastguard Agency Lifeboat code and built to Lloyds A100 specification. Both boats are fully equipped to handle any situation from towing to medical emergencies.

We are currently undertaking a recruitment drive in the Hamble, Netley, and Burseldon area, to increase our current crew numbers. All crew are volunteers and are required to provide weekend duty on a rota system, (first weekend Saturday, second weekend Sunday, third weekend off), and to be able to respond to pager call outs, also worked on rota basis. Weekends the duty crew man the station from 0930, where the duty boat is thoroughly checked over, and cleaned. From 1300-1700 the boat undertakes a patrol of the central Solent and Southampton water. After patrol the boat is refuelled and put back on the mooring ready. At 1800, (assuming the lifeboat is not on a tasking) the station is closed down and pager call resumed.

Physically fit, applicants will be expected to undertake a medical
Will have to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check

Local area knowledge of the Hamble River, Southampton Water, and the Solent
